Small Business Tip – For Thirty Cents

I had the most bizarre thing happen to me today.

I was out of my office and I needed to get three
copies made. I was close to a Kinkos I have never
made copies there before.

So I went in and found the copy machines, now I
am sure you’ve noticed every copy center uses
different machines and they all work differently.

Most of them have so many different functions
and options you need a two year degree to run one.
I think one is coming out  that makes an espresso
for you while you are copying.

Well I found the copy machines and an employee.
She was busy having a personal conversation
so I had to wait. While I waited another women
walked up looked at the machines and then with
a look of bewilderment  looked at me.

Finally the employee stopped chatting and looked
at me. I quickly asked her how do these machines
work. She said, first you have to put in a credit
card in. What? Put in a credit card, for three
copies? Yep, she said.

I said thanks, but no thanks and I walked out.

First of all please, I understand that because
of what I do for a living I have higher
expectations. For example people just doing
their jobs, or treating me like a customer
used to be treated. Or being able to pay
cash for thirty cents worth of copies.

But, I never in a million years thought the only
way I could buy thirty cents worth of copies
would be with a credit card!

Do you think I’ll go there again? There is three
other copy shops with in two blocks and they
take cash.

Here is the lesson, make it as easy as possible
for customers to do business with you and don’t
make your customers do DUMB things.

I won’t say the employee is a lesson that’s
normal these days.

Now go see what your customers have to do
to give you money.
